Tracking Source of Clicks

Using URLTrak, you will track this URL by adding it to your tracker and assigning it a unique name, such as MyBizOp.

Then, you will get a special tracking link to use in place of your original link so that clicks can be tracked, such as:

 http://urltrak.com/?1:MyBizOp

where 1 is your unique user id and MyBizOp is the name you assigned to your URL.

Now, to track where the clicks are coming from, you would simply append to the tracking URL, the name of the place you posted your URL. For example:

 http://urltrak.com/?1:MyBizOp:ElixirSafelist

Additional parameters can be added to the tracking link to track things such as the day you advertised the link, the place you advertised the link, and the method you used to advertise, such as banner exchange, safelist, FFA, etc.

Example Tracking Scenario: E-mail Advertising

You may have a product or service that you promote via e-mail. Your ad may contain various links that when clicked will direct the potential customer to your site where your product or service is. Here is an example of your ad without any tracking system in place:

First of all, let's assume you've sent this e-mail ad to various places, including a few safelists, posted on ad boards, you may have a double opt-in list of subscribers, and so on. So you've sent your ad out to every possible place, reaching as many potentially interested buyers of your product as possible.

Now the orders start pouring in! Great!

Now, let's assume that several of your methods of advertising work better than others. In fact, some produce no results at all. You've paid dear money to advertise your product -- safelist membership fees, bulk list purchase, and so on. You know that paid advertising ultimately works best for your product, but can become very expensive.

So let's say you spend about $250 a month (and possibly a whole lot more!) on advertising. You know that there must be some way to cut back on that advertising cost to increase profits. We've taken the original ad and swapped out the links with special tracking links. For example, we've converted the original destination URL:

www.your-domain.com

into a tracking URL:

http://urltrak.com/?1:LusciousLips:OurBulk

The tracking URL will tell you that, when clicked, the visitor came from "OurBulk" bulk list, which is one of the lists you sent your ad to (for example).

For each ad you send out, you would customize your tracking link to reflect the source of click. For example:

http://urltrak.com/?1:LusciousLips:ElixirSafelist

The main part of each tracking link above is:

http://urltrak.com/?1:LusciousLips

which will stay the same in every ad. The only part of the tracking link that will change is the name of the place you submitted your ad to (e.g., OurBulk, ElixirSafelist, MyNewsletter1, etc.).
